Travel Photo of the Week: Floating Basketball Court | Siem Reap, Cambodia

Is it possible to play basketball in a freshwater lake like Tonle Sap? The answer is YES!

Here’s a snapshot of the Floating Basketball Court in Chong Khneas Village in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Sporty locals play here often. During our quick day tour, I couldn’t help but wonder on how the Khmer and Vietnamese inhabitants were able to sustain this kind of lifestyle. Our tour guide mentioned that there are more than 5,000 residents living along the Tonle Sap waterway area.

Our Chong Khneas Floating Village Tour served as an eye opener for me. Aside from the magnificent temples of Angkor Wat, the Tonle Sap Tours are selling like hotcakes in Siem Reap. It is a big help in terms of tourism, but I wonder how do the locals feel everytime a tourist… like me take pictures of their unlikely set-up.

It’s things like this that make traveling so special, who would have thought it would have existed?
