Spotted in Hacienda Luisita: Golayat and Lolo Badong

When I was still based in Dagupan City, it’s already a ritual of my grandparents to visit the Manila home at least once a month. In some instances, Carlo and I would join them and enjoy a weekend vacation in Manila. Roadtrips with my grandparents is cool because they narrate stories from time to time.

I wonder if this is also a century tree. Hmmm...

Since I stayed in Dagupan City to attend the Proud Dagupeno event, Lolo scheduled the roadtrip to Manila that Sunday morning. We left Dagupan at 6am (and that’s late already!) and as expected, I slept immediately 😛 I woke up when we reached Hacienda Luisita. Lolo decided to buy some grocery items at Robinson’s. I went around the park to take pictures instead.

Then I discovered something!

SPOTTED: Golayat and Lolo Badong

The people around me were looking at this one spot at the street. I then saw a mini kalesa and an old man wearing shades and his hat, which reminded me of the 40’s. Uhm, wait. That’s not a mini-horse! It’s a goat!

Want to ride the mini-kalesa?

‘Golayat and Lolo Badong’ is already considered as a star to the kids every Sunday morning in Luisita. Usually, kids will ask their parents if they can ride there or take a photo with the tandem. Lolo Badong’s colorful kalesa (notice the two shining cds at the back hehe:P) definitely caught the attention of everyone especially of those who are young at heart. Secretly, I want to try it LOL but i know the ride’s limitations 😛

This Parking Lot is for Kalesas ...ALSO

Apparently, it is also the first time my Lolo caught them. This mini-kalesa will surely attract more tourists soon. At least we’ll have more reasons to visit Luisita aside from visiting the Aquino Museum, which I haven’t seen yet 😛

I was going through my photos today when I saw mang badong’s photo. I decided to search Google to see if people still see him there. I don’t see him there anymore every time I go to luisita.
At least I found out somebody wrote an article, your blog, about him. I was able to have only one snapshot of him and calesa.

      Hi Jun!

Good to know that you also remember them 🙂 Matagal ko na rin silang hindi nakikita kasi I usually take the bus nowadays or kung via car man, TPLEX na ang daan so no time to stop sa Luisita. Hope they’re okay..
