Camp Bandilaan: Conquering Siquijor’s Highest Peak

Our short visit at Camp Bandilaan in Siquijor is one of the highlights of our roadtrip adventure last year. I consider it a good opening salvo to our journey since we were able to reach the island’s highest peak.

The first day was spent exploring some of Siquijor’s top resorts. Our itinerary for the second day is dominated by caves, mountains and waterfalls. For our first stop, the group went to Cantabon Cave. We recorded a very shaky video towards Siquijor’s most famous cave (they have around 45 caves in the island alone – some are even unexplored!). We weren’t able to try spelunking that day because guests are prohibited to go in that day. Too bad. I haven’t tried spelunking, although the photos of Cantabon Cave I found online are inviting.

Our next stop is Camp Bandilaan. Together with Dylan and his cousin Dolee, we did a little bit of trekking towards Siquijor’s highest peak. I’m glad the trekking part isn’t as hard as I imagined it to be. There were several bench allotted for guests who needs to rest and catch their breath.

When we reached the bottom of the metal tower, I noticed that it is already a bit rustic. When I asked if it is safe to go up there, they gave me a thumbs up. Visitors must be extra careful though.

Viola, here we are! The weather was cooperative that day. The weather that morning is a bit gloomy, yet there’s no sign of heavy rainfall. Mt. Bandilaan is a forest sanctuary. I bet there’s a mossy part somewhere.

When you’re at the top of the metal tower, you will see a full view of Siquijor. Lovely weather + Good view = Happy Morning Trek

Say a little prayer

My Siquijor took place a week before the Semana Santa. I also grabbed the opportunity to visit the Camp Bandilaan’s Station of the Cross. Locals and tourists flock to this part every holy week to offer prayers.

I saw a picnic area for families and big groups. With the cool weather that morning, I pictured a good breakfast set-up on one of the tables.

Have you been to Siquijor’s Camp Bandilaan? What are your plans this Semana Santa season?
