Siquijor Side Trip: Lugnason Falls

I love the sounds and the power of pounding water, whether it is the waves or a waterfall. – Mike May

One of the perks of driving with a local is you get to visit the places that are hard to find or out of the way. I am not sure if Lugnason Falls is part of the usual Siquijor Day Trip itinerary offered by travel agencies in Siquijor, but I have to say that I’m happy to spend a few minutes of solitude there.

Lugnason Falls

Our first stop that Wednesday morning is Lugnason Falls. It is located in Brgy. Napo, San Juan. According to Dylan, Lugnason Falls became popular to locals and tourists alike just a few years ago and only a few include it in their itinerary. There are other caves and waterfalls in the island that have yet to be discovered, and it makes a Siquijor trip more exciting. I’ll make a separate post about the other ‘off the beaten path’ we managed to visit while in Siquijor.

Welcome to Lugnason Falls!

You will see a big signage upon entering Lugnason Falls. There’s no entrance fee as far as I can remember. You still need to walk for a few minutes before you reach the tip of the waterfall.

Follow the Leader

We thought we were the only ones in the area that morning. We were delighted when we saw Matt, a Canadian traveler whom we met a day before in Cambugahay Falls and Kagusuan Beach.

Lugnason Falls is smaller compared to the famous Cambugahay Falls. Visiting such body of water in the morning makes you want to jump and rinse off the laziness. The water was cold and the weather is acting up that day. No, rain. Not today! Go away!

‘Can we stay here a bit longer? I want to be dramatic even just for a few minutes.’ I asked.

‘Ok, but just for a few minutes. Don’t swim. Just reserve it to the next destination’.

Fine.

You have to be extra careful when staying in Lugnason Falls since it’s slippery and the current coming from the waterfall is strong. I almost slipped, but managed to sit –  Senyorita style. Yeah, that’s how you do it.

Quality time with the waterfall

We took lots of pictures and recorded some emo clips before we left Lugnason Falls. That was a short stay and honestly, I wanted to stay a little bit longer.
