Shopping at Chiang Mai’s Night Market

‘Thailand’ is almost equivalent to ‘shopping haven’ for most girls. Bangkok is the home of cheap yet creative items such as clothes, jewelries, bags, shoes and many, many more. I am not a shopaholic that’s why I didn’t visit the Top Shopping Destinations of Bangkok. I only gave in to do last minute shopping during my last night in Chiang Mai.

This girl deserves some tip and a big smile 🙂

If you think food and clothing in Bangkok are cheap, I can say that Chiang Mai markets will truly unleash the inner shopaholic in you. Together with dorm mates Matt and Kim, we went to the Saturday Market near Panthip Plaza to scout for exotic food and at the same time check the items for sale. Flipnomad’s blog entry about the Chiang Mai Night Market caught my interest due to the quirky items he attached on his post.

I would like to share some of the pictures I managed to take that fateful Saturday night. I’d buy more items if I have enough money with me 😛

We were able to find some stalls selling quirky food. I will write a separate post about it soon. While gallivanting around, my new friends and I exchanged stories about our travels. As a first-timer to try mixed dorm accommodations outside my home country, I got curious on how some travelers manage to stay longer on the road. We also talked about plans of traveling in Europe in the future (Kim is from Sweden). I have this big interest on Croatia because of an online friend. It is better to look for good Dubrovnik apartments than change hotels because it can be more expensive and tiring to move all the time. Well, he is right. Now that I think of Croatia, I would like to do some museum-hopping in Zagreb. Yay!

The stall owners packed up before midnight. We all went back to the hostel to meet more people and exchange stories. Since I have enough money with me, I decided to shop for a few items the next day. Stall owners were busy setting up for the night market and I saw more interesting pieces. This time, I met up with Raymond of manonthelam.com and spent the rest of the afternoon roaming around the stalls near Thapae Gate. I managed to buy some clothes for myself, the family and some cute stuff for close friends. I can’t wait to fly back to Chiang Mai!

Have you been to Thailand? Any suggestions on where to shop in Bangkok? I’ll allot time for it on my next trip LOL

  1. Love that Manny Pacquiao is along the likes of Obama and (an Avater version) of Che Guevara, at least in T-shirt design terms. And that little monk statue is cute!

    Great post! 🙂
