My Roomorama Experience in Chiang Mai, Thailand

I’ve been reading a lot of positive reviews about Roomorama. In fact, they are aggressive in promoting their services in the Philippines. I was able to have my ‘unofficial’ Roomorama experience when Ron and Monette invited me to their overnight staycation in a condo unit somewhere in Taguig last September.

To make my Chiang Mai trip special, I joined the Roomorama bandwagon. I booked the cheapest accommodation I could find on the website and guess what? It didn’t disappoint.

I arrived in Chiang Mai early morning on the 15th of February 2012. I went there with no idea on where to go and the main tourist attractions of the place. All I know is that a lot of bloggers and digital nomads fell in love with the place and the weather is just as cool as Baguio City. Let’s just say my curiosity is the one to blame on why I went to Chiang Mai all of a sudden πŸ˜›

Together with other travelers, we were dropped in a bus station, where a number of Songtaew drivers were waiting. One approached me and asked where’s my destination. I told him that I want to go to Galae Thong Tower. I’m glad that he is familiar with the place. I also asked two tourists to ride with me to lessen the cost πŸ˜› I was dropped of first then the rest went straight to the Old City. The Songtaew reminded me of the Philippine jeepney.

I arrived waaay too early and the check-in time is 12noon. Thanks for the Free Wifi in the in-house restaurant and cafe, I was able to kill time chatting by chatting with my family and friends via Skype. I also enjoyed my Iced Mocha and arranged some of the pictures I took from Bangkok and Siem Reap. I also asked myself on why am I in Chiang Mai. Is this reality? Haha!

The staff and crew were nice to me. They informed me right away once my assigned unit for the day is ready. Hmmm….

Woohoo! Presenting my Chiang Mai studio unit! Hihi

I instantly felt like an expat upon entering the room. I have my own bathroom, a big comfy bed, my own couch, a viewdeck and kitchen (although I don’t really cook). I took a bath after taking pictures and went straight to the bed.

I deserve a short nap, but I decided to hire a tuktuk and visit the Old City, where I can do my own photowalk and temple-hopping. Also, I am craving for Thai Milk Tea!

You can read the my Chiang Mai Day 1 Travelogue here.

Instead of hiring a tuktuk on my way back to the condo, I decided to just walk so I can pass by the Night Bazaar. According to the Free Chiang Mai 3D Map, It is only 15 minutes away from the popular shopping place. I love to walk, but I guess walking with my laptop on my backpack is not such a good idea.

I arrived in Galae Thong Tower tired and hungry. I’m glad that the in-house resto is still open. Whew! I saw a number of expats in their 40’s over dinner. I ordered a simple meal then later on, the working residents started coming in. I feel like a hungry working expat. πŸ˜›

Right after dinner, I went straight to my unit and retired right away. The comforter just seduced me to the bed to sleep. I deserve to rest and recharge for the activities the next day. I wasn’t able to use the TV and some of the appliances.

I woke up at 8am the next day. Breakfast is included in my Roomorama booking. Here’s what I ate for breakfast:

As usual, I went online after eating. I went back to my unit at around 10am to pack my things and get ready to leave (huhu).

Even if my stay in Galae Thong Tower via Roomorama is just short, I am still thankful because I felt like an expat working as a wanderer in Chiang Mai hehe πŸ˜› Now, I have an idea on where I can possibly stay just in case I decide to work as an employee or as a digital nomad in this beautiful part of Thailand.

  1. How much was it? It looks really nice! I guess their units in Asia are better. In Italy, it was just a regular room where I stayed and it was not cheap hehe (backlog pa ang post!).

Impressive! Might try Agoda on my HK trip with the family. Do they accept Paypal for the payment? I’m using Agoda in most of my hotel bookings.
