Day Trip to Moalboal, Cebu – Dive, Snorkel & Enjoy!

Going to Moalboal in Cebu is not a part of the original plan, but we decided to go since a day trip is doable. I’ve been hearing a lot of positive reviews from divers who fell in love with Moalboal. Hmmm… I wonder why.

Thanks to Cebu-based travel blogger friends Doi, Edwin and Dylan, the Day Trip to Moalboal finally pushed through! Robbie and I attempted to go there last May, but our supposed companions fell asleep because of a party they attended a night before the scheduled date. Now this is it!

First-timers ready for Moalboal!

Eric, Drew, Robbie and I are certified first-timers in Moalboal that’s why we’re all excited. Even if we lack sleep, we went to the meeting place to wait for Dylan, Doi and Edwin. We all went straight to the Citilink Terminal in Cebu City to hire a van for our trip. All I can think about while we were in the terminal is the white beach that will welcome us in Moalboal!

Along the way, we decided to take a short stopover in Carcar, a place in Cebu that is famous for their Lechon and Chicharon. We bought Lechon (1 Kilo, i think) for our lunch and the sight of it made me really hungry! The Carcar Chicharon is my favorite pasalubong and Byahilo can’t get enough of it. I think he finished more than half of the pack while we’re on the road!

It's crystal clear that I am now in Wow Moalboal!

After almost two hours, we finally reached Brgy. Basdako. WHITE BEACH! I get so excited and I just can’t hide it! We looked for a good place where we can eat our lunch.

Lunod sa Lechon!

Lechon+Rice+Pansit+ Cold Coke Regular = Awesome Sunday Lunch by the beach!

Families and group of friends are seen having fun swimming on the beach, singing in videoke stalls and chatting within the cottages. What a hot laidback Sunday in Moalboal!

Videoke sa tanghaling tapat!

Right after we finished our lunch and photo ops, we took one tricycle to take us to Panagsama Beach. It is a bit far, but I had fun in that particular tricycle ride. Why? Well, Eric, Robbie and I started singing some 90’s pop songs with the likes of Aqua, Steps, Backstreet Boys and the Spice Girls! I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really want!

Moalboal-Trip33
Where's the banker-o?

Time to look for a banca operator! Apparently, our main contact is not in the area because they need to fix the necessary requirements with the coast guard. With the help of our tricycle driver, we found one! I think we settled with Php2,100 including life vest, snorkeling gears and there’s seven of us. You do the math hehe πŸ˜›

Pescador Island

The Pescador Island is quite popular to diving enthusiast because of the Sardine Run. I read some blog entries and saw some videos about it and I am quite curious. I may not be able to swim and dive, but I can snorkel. Good for me πŸ˜€

Pak na Pak PAKWAN!

It will take at least 10-15 minutes to reach Pescador Island. On our way there, Edwin started giving our slices of Pakwan (Watermelon) Sarap!

All Smiles!

And here we are! Life vest and Snorkeling gears – I’m all set! While I am seated on the boat, I can already see some of the corals and fishes. Can’t wait to snorkel!

SARDINE RUN!! So lovely! My favorite part is when Edwin tried to capture some underwater scenes through his camera and the school of sardines would spread once he comes close to them. Such a pity I cannot dive!

Watch the video above courtesy of Doi Domasian which sums up our Moalboal Day Trip =D

Moalboal-Trip73

We stayed for almost 40 minutes there. I tried snorkeling while the rest went down under to say hello to our underwater creatures.

Our next stop is the Tongo Point Marine Sanctuary. While we’re on our way there, we spotted some big fishes (dolphins? whales?) who are freely swimming in the middle of the sea. My first time to see that sight and it is almost sunset time!

We did more snorkeling to see the corals in the Tongo Point Marine Sanctuary. Edwin is such a good swimmer and he really can’t wait to dive more. He spotted a pawikan or sea turtle freely swimming in the water. Even if I cannot swim, he offered to guide me and we were able to see the pawikan! It is such a rewarding experience to see these lovely creatures move freely underwater. Ang saya maging malaya at paswim-swim lang, ‘di ba? πŸ˜›

Dive, Snorkel, Swim. We did that routine for half an hour then we went back to the boat with fulfillment. This Moalboal Trip is really worth the time and effort. More reasons to love Cebu!

Moalboal Sunset

We went back to the town proper of Moalboal after we changed our clothes. It is obvious that a lot of foreigners fell in love with Moalboal after seeing a number of resorts that were built and owned by expats. The daily tours and diving centers is good for their tourism and I hope that the people of Moalboal will be able to preserve the place. It is a gift that they must take good care of.

Have you been to MoalboalΒ Are you planning to attend the Sinulog Festival 2012? If you still have enough time, you can do a Day Trip to Moalboal with your friends!
