The world’s must-travel routes
Exploring the world is one of the best possible things to do. Finding a great route is easy, as the world is filled with endless remarkable journeys. At its best, travelling is exciting, enlightening and packed with wonderful memories, but you need to make sure that you’re safe. By taking out worldwide travel insurance, you give yourself a significant safety net should you lose something like a camera. When it comes to travel insurance compare prices so you get the best deal, and once you pick one, you’re ready to go. Here are some of the world’s most iconic routes to travel:
Orient Express, Europe
Running throughout Europe, the Orient Express takes you through large parts of the continent, taking in hills and cities. The journey starts in London, and will send you to cities such as Paris, Rome, Prague, Krakow and Budapest. The service currently running is officially known as the Venice-Simplon Orient Express and goes between London and Venice. Its carriages were originally built in the 1920s to 1930s and include an on-board restaurant. Have your camera ready!
Route 66, United States
A driver’s dream, Route 66 is one of the world’s greatest roads. At nearly 4,000km, it starts in Chicago and ends in Los Angeles. Built in the 1930’s during the Great Depression, it is perhaps most famous for featuring in John Steinbeck’s Depression-era novel The Grapes of Wrath. Although it lies in a state of disrepair (it was officially closed in 1985), travellers with a great love of the book have gone up and down Route 66 to get a feel for what it was like living in the Dust Bowl.
Pacific Coast Highway, United States
Staying in the US, the Californian coast’s Highway 1 is considered by many to be the most visually breathtaking route in the world. To fully appreciate the Pacific Coast Highway in all its glory, it’s best to travel in the front seat of a convertible. Hiring a convertible is easy in the States, so if you want to take in the sun-kissed West Coast, hire one as soon as you can, but be careful to not get too distracted by the stunning views!
Stelvio Pass, Italy
This particular route has more sharp corners than you can imagine, with 48 hairpin turns snaking their way around the northern area of the Dreisprachenspitze in the eastern Alps. The Stelvio Pass has outstanding views of the Italian Alps, but you won’t become too dazzled by the scenery as you’ll have to negotiate all those hairpin turns. Originally, the road was built nearly two centuries ago by the Austrian Empire in the 1820’s.
