Delightful Spanish golf holidays
Hugely popular with tourists worldwide, Spain entices tens of millions to its shores every year, and it’s easy to see why. While its spotless, gorgeous beaches and persistently sunny weather help – hence its nickname “sunny Spain”, there’s so much more to this part of the Iberian Peninsula than that. Its long and rich cultural history, evident in the vast majority of its towns and cities makes Spain a great place to visit for a weekend break.
As its capital city, Madrid is battling with London and Paris for the title of Europe’s Most Visited City. Its history goes all the way back to the Middle Ages, while the modern-day city is as vibrant as any of its equivalents in Europe. Madrid has more than its fair share of outstanding art galleries, museums and churches. Its galleries proudly display works by great native artists including those from Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso.
Spain’s outdoor delights contrast greatly with the bustling metropolises of Madrid and Barcelona. Its two most notable mountain ranges, the Pyrenees on the border with France and the southern Sierra Nevada range, offer something you wouldn’t expect to find here. Both ranges, as well as Spain’s other mountainous areas offer skiing holidays, which are particularly popular in the Sierra Nevada area near Madrid. The Sierra Nevada is known as the ‘snowy range’ for a very good reason.
Sport is a big part of the country’s culture, and Spanish golf holidays are hugely popular because of that. Barcelona, the country’s second city, has plenty of courses to its name should you fancy playing a round. The St. Cugat Golf Club in northern Barcelona is one such golf course Spain is famous for, and is the oldest, and indeed one of the most well-kept courses in the entire Catalonia region.
Lying on the north-eastern coast, Barcelona is seen as Madrid’s biggest rival for the accolade of Spain’s ‘central hub of entertainment’. Its nightlife has received huge acclaim, and has one significant advantage over the capital: it’s long, splendid coastline. National Geographic magazine voted its beaches the best in the world.
Speaking of beaches, the famous Costa Del Sol is another magnet for sun-seeking tourists. Like many parts of Spain, it has a huge number of top-class golf courses to play on. When it comes to golf Costa Del Sol courses are amongst the best in the world to play and chill out in the clubhouse after a round.
Whether you want a tranquil golf break, a night out on the Catalonian coast or to see the works of some of the world’s foremost artists, holidaying in Spain is unbeatable. All its attractions ensure that, despite its current economic problems, it will never be short of tourists.
