How NOT to Gain Weight and Eat Well When Travelling
This is a dilemma: how no to gain weight and continue to eat in a healthy way when travelling? If you want to keep on with your home diet stop reading here, because I won’t give you any advice on how and where you will find your everyday food from home. I think that there is no point in travelling and trying to get local if you don’t like locals. Staying in Florence apartments if you don’t want to eat out every night one of the things you could do instead is to go to the nearest bakery and ask the shop assistant which is the best bread for bruschette is and also ask how to prepare them. You will need just few more ingredients: Tuscan olive oil, garlic and fresh tomato (optional). No big secret as you can see.
As all of you know, tasting local dishes is one of the ways to learn a lot about the culture and traditions of the country we are visiting. No need to say you have to leave prejudices and your fears back home and get armed with a little bit of adventure spirit.
What about trying honey ants, consumed by some Aboriginal tribes in Australia? They are not always the tastiest dishes but in return healthy and low in fat.
When in Italy, may be difficult to resist to try 100 more pasta variants and its delicious sauces: bolognese, all’amatriciana, carbonara, pesto…One suggestion: go for the lighter ones. In every menu you’ll find also one that is only with vegetables like for example fusilli with zucchini (courgette) e scalogno (a type of onion), surprisingly tasty! Add just a small spoon of parmigiano reggiano cheese. Well, personally I hardly achieve being discrete and parsimonious with this as I’m fond of parmigiano! Depending where you travel to fish can be delicious and Italians are also stars in preparing colourful and rich salads adding unusual combinations like pears with cheese.
Variety and moderation are the clues. We took Italian cuisine as an example, but these rules can be applied everywhere whether if you spend your days in apartments in Florence or anywhere else on the globe. Maybe one more thing: Laziness is forbidden. Even if you may take more time to visit a city, try to avoid using too much the public transport: walk. It is one of the best ways to experience a city. And don’t forget that you can go for a little jog anywhere.
